Isolated in violent relationships and in fear of deportation, many immigrant victims are not able to access social services, medical care or courts. They may be unfamiliar or afraid to contact police. Immigrant battered women need responsive advocacy and assistance rooted in their language and culture. Interpreters, community support and safety essential to increase the likelihood of safety.
Affiliation with other community oraganizations, training about these barriers and referals for responsive services needed by immigrants is a committment of the agency programs. It is important to our community's investment in bringing peace to our island families, and those less visible immigrant battered women - to become aquainted with their options, reliable information, crisis support, advocacy, & legal services.
